Victor & Juanma: Wood sculpting

Wood sculptor Víctor García Villalgordo based in Spain & Spanish fellow Juan Manuel Juárez Cabello
Víctor specialises in polychrome carved wood sculpture. While studying modelling and painting at the School of Applied Arts in Orihuela, he worked in the workshop of the Blanco López brothers in Alicante. Then he worked in Seville for two years as an apprentice, opening his sculpture workshop in Torrevieja in 1996.
As a teenager Juanma did three consecutive summer courses in woodworking with Víctor. He then studied architecture and pursued a career in the art market, living abroad for 12 years in Italy, Middle East, and the Caucasus. He recently graduated as a wood sculptor specialising in polychrome carving.
Passionately
This polychrome wooden sculpture depicts a woman in a contemplative pose. Carved in cedar wood, before being gilded and polychromed with oil paints in the Spanish sculptural tradition, the bust is completed by glass eyes and natural eyelashes. Master wood sculptor Víctor and fellow Juan Manuel, working together in Alicante, Spain, sculpted the woman wearing large, angular, Art Deco-style earrings, a glamorous headscarf and a luxurious coat evoking the calla lily. Her pose exudes elegance and self-confidence.
