Vanessa & Aikaterini: Ceramics

Ceramicist Vanessa Anastasopoulou based in Greece & Greek fellow Aikaterini Sara Batistatou

Having studied painting at the Royal College of Art, Drawing and painting are intrinsic to Vanessa’s ceramic process, as is her double heritage. From her workshop in Athens, she creates wheel thrown creations decorated with engobes, underglazes, pastels, porcelain slip, and various glazes.

Nina studied design at the University of West Attica, where she developed a holistic approach to materials and discovered ceramics. She went on to intern at Liana Papalexis’ ceramics workshop assisting with wholesale production while taking part in wheel throwing classes.

A Tea Party

This tea set comprises a variety of ceramic objects made of porcelain and stoneware clay. The teapot, cups, small plates and sugar bowl are complemented by shelves that create a mini stage for exhibiting the pieces. In this way, master ceramicist Vanessa and fellow Aikaterini have enabled the user to create their own playful narrative each time they use the tea set. By combining geometric forms and rich ornamentation, the tea set evokes the cultural optimism and lavish style of the Art Deco era.
